| Scheme for Rehabilitation of Manual Scavengers (SRMS) |

| Self Employment Scheme for Rehabilitation of Manual Scavengers (SRMS) was approved by the cabinet on 28.12.06, as a successor scheme to National Scheme for Libration & Rehabilitation of Scavengers (NSLRS). The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment (MSJ&E) entrusted the implementation of SRMS in NCT of Delhi to NHFDC. NHFDC implemented the scheme with the help of its State Channelizing Agency in Delhi i.e. Delhi SC/ST/OBC Minorities Handicapped Finance Development Corporation (DSFDC). The main components of the scheme are skill training and financial assistance (loan and subsidy) for self employment, as per details as given below:- |
| i. Skill training for a period upto one year, with payment of stipend @ Rs. 1000 per month. |
| ii. Loan at concessional rate of interest for self employment projects costing upto Rs. 5 lakhs- provision of interest subsidy to provide for the gap between the banks rate of interest and the rate of interest provided under the scheme (4-6%). |
| iii. Capital subsidy @ 50% of the project cost, for projects upto Rs. 25000/- and @25% for projects above Rs.25000 with a minimum of Rs. 12500/- and maximum of Rs. 20000/-. |

| 1085 Manual Scavengers have been identified by DSFDC (as per the Survey report submitted by Department of Social Work, Delhi University on August 2007) for training and self employment scheme for rehabilitation. |
